Background/Summary:
Nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, including 1 in 9 in Arizona, and another 86 million are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. During American Diabetes Month, the American Diabetes Association invites local Peoria residents to join in the mission to end this epidemic and improve the lives of people affected by diabetes.
The 2016 American Diabetes Month theme, This is Diabetes, will highlight the triumphs and daily challenges of the millions of Americans living with this chronic illness and empower people at risk of developing diabetes with the tools to prevent a diabetes diagnosis. This month-long campaign by the American Diabetes Association will engage the public to share their personal diabetes stories and provide a window into the 24-hour demands of diabetes, which are so often invisible and silent. In addition, the American Diabetes Association will promote healthy lifestyle tips, wellness advice, and nutrition education information. As part of American Diabetes Month, the Association will also be celebrating National Healthy Lunch Day on November 15, when they encourage everyone to “lunch right with every bite” and make healthy choices. Throughout the month, more information about diabetes will be available online at diabetes.org/adm or at 1-800-DIABETES.
To help fight back against Diabetes, the City is Peoria is proud to proclaim the month of November as: “American Diabetes Month”.
