Background/Summary:
The City held their first photograph contest, Peoria’s 2016 Water Photo Contest, last fall.
The Sustain & Gain team (Public Works – Utilities, Office of Communication, and the Economic Efficiency and Sustainability Manager) decided that a contest to select the cover photo was an opportunity to showcase the beauty of Peoria and celebrate our water while engaging people in experiencing the quality of life in Peoria.
The prize was to have the winning photograph (with Photo credit) on the cover of the 2017 Sustain & Gain booklet. Sustain & Gain is delivered to every residence in Peoria and distributed at locations and events across the city throughout the year.
The application, photo & model releases and dropbox for submitting photographs was set up to allow for future contests with different themes.
Photographer and Peoria resident Kristy Tucker, took the winning photograph of a sail boat on Lake Pleasant while she was hiking.
Lake Pleasant stores Colorado River Water (delivered by the Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal) in the winter months when demand is low. In the summer, the water is released into the CAP canal where it flows to water providers, like Peoria, for treatment and delivery to customers.
