This is a request for City Council to adopt an Ordinance renumbering current Chapter 8 (Elections) to Chapter 4 and amending various sections of the Peoria City Code.

As discussed at the January 24, 2017 Council Study Session, City staff began a comprehensive review of the City Code in July 2016. A comprehensive review of the City Code has not been completed for many years.  As a result of the review, staff is recommending that the arrangement of the code chapters be changed to reflect a systemic order. Staff is recommending that the current City Code Chapter 8 (Elections) become Chapter 4 (Elections). Chapter 8 will be replaced by a new chapter focused on municipal special events at a later council meeting.

•  Deemed elected in primary and general elections
•  Redistrict after a mid-decennial census
•  Legal descriptions of district boundaries
•  Election dates requirements
•  Rotation of names of candidates on ballot
•  Number of signatures and method of calculations requirement
•  Time of filing for initiative and referendum petitions
•  Ballot formats
•  Election sample ballots and publicity pamphlets
•  Eligibility and circulation of circulator of elections, initiative, referendum and recall
•  Registration
•  Withdrawal of petition signature
•  Compensation of boards of elections and clerks
