Background/Summary:
The mission of the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is to provide advisory insight relating to the development of recreational facilities, review city ordinances and proposals on youth issues, and share advice on the planning of youth-oriented events, activities and programs sponsored by the city.
The YAB has 19 member and two alternate positions. The members have varied backgrounds and interests. They live in each of the six Council Districts and are students at eight public schools, one private school and a home school. They work together with a common interest of representing and improving the quality of life for the youth in Peoria. In addition to attending monthly YAB meetings, the members participated in a variety of leadership and civic-centric activities.
Peoria’s Youth Master Plan identifies six key areas of focus. This school year, the YAB members were actively involved in planning, coordinating and participating in several events and activities that align directly with the Plan’s areas of focus. The following summarizes the focus areas and activities:
- Identify options for improving transportation for Peoria youth
-

-
Homeless Youth Connection, Kaity’s Way, Bloom 365, Hart Pantry
