Board and Commission Appointments 

Purpose:

This is a request for City Council to appoint/reappoint board and commission members as recommended by the Council Boards and Commissions Subcommittee as follows:

 

Economic Development Advisory Board

 

Appoint Mitchell Bolnick as a regular member for a term to expire June 2021, and appoint Anoop Kumar as an alternate member for a partial term to expire June 2020.

 

Library Board

 

Appoint Katrina Romijn as a regular member for a term to expire June 2021. 

 

Parks and Recreation Board

 

Appoint Judith McHale and Anthony VanGoethem as regular members for terms to expire June 2021.

 

Public Defender Contract Review Committee

 

Appoint James Hann as the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office member for a term to expire June 2021 and appoint Zachary Mushkatel as the West Maricopa County Bar Association member for a partial term to expire June 2018.

 

Veterans Memorial Board

 

Appoint Anthony VanGoethem as a regular member for a partial term to expire December 2020.

 

Youth Advisory Board

 

Appoint Madelyn Stuckey as a regular member for a term to expire June 2019.

Background/Summary:

The Council Boards and Commissions Subcommittee makes recommendations for board and commission membership based on term expirations and vacancies from resignations or changes to member eligibility status.

Previous Actions:

On April 25, 2017 the Council Boards and Commissions Subcommittee made appointment/reappointment recommendations to various Boards and Commissions.

 

On April 27, 2017, a memorandum was submitted to Mayor and Council, outlining the appointment/reappointment recommendations from the April 25, 2017 Subcommittee meeting, asking for concerns to be submitted in writing to the Mayor.  No comments were received.

Options:

A.  Appoint recommended board and commission members.

B.  Continue recruitment efforts to fill the board and commission vacancies.

Staff Recommendation:

Discussion and possible action to approve the recommendations from the Council Boards and Commissions Subcommittee pertaining to the following appointments, and adopt the Resolutions as presented:

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-48 appointing Mitchell Bolnick as a regular member of the Economic Development Advisory Board for a term to expire June 2021 and appointing Anoop Kumar as an alternate member of the Economic Development Advisory Board for a partial term to expire June 2020; and

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-49 appointing Katrina Romijn as a regular member of the Library Board for a term to expire June 2021; and

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-50 appointing Judith McHale and Anthony VanGoethem as regular members of the Parks and Recreation Board for terms to expire June 2021; and 

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-51 appointing James Hann as the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office member of the Public Defender Contract Review Committee for a term to expire June 2021 and appointing Zachary Mushkatel as the West Maricopa County Bar Association member of the Public Defender Contract Review Committee for a partial term to expire June 2018; and

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-52 appointing Anthony VanGoethem as a regular member of the Veterans Memorial Board for a partial term to expire December 2020; and

 

  • Adopt RES. 2017-53 appointing Madelyn Stuckey as a regular member of the Youth Advisory Board for a term to expire June 2019.
Fiscal Analysis:

There is no fiscal impact regarding this item.

Narrative:

If appointed, the newly appointed board/commission members will be invited to attend the June 13, 2017 City Council meeting to accept their Certificates of Appointment.
