Memorandum of Understanding, State of Arizona Department of Health Services, CHEMPACK Program 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to approve an updated Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Arizona, Department of Health Services, to authorize the Fire Department to participate in the CHEMPACK Program in conjunction with the State and the Centers for Disease Control to maintain and store pharmaceuticals for providing antidotes to nerve agent exposure.

Summary:

The Fire-Medical Department has participated in the CHEMPACK Program since 2004. The Department in conjunction with the State of Arizona and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) maintain and store a cache of pharmaceuticals for providing antidotes to nerve agent exposure. The last Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was approved in 2013 with a five-year renewal cycle. The new MOU continues the Fire Department’s participation in the program for five additional years.

Previous Actions/Background:

City Council approved the initial Memorandum of Understanding in 2004 and the renewal in August, 2013.
Options:

A: Approve the request as proposed.

 

B: Reject the request and provide further guidance from staff.

 

 

 

 

 

Staff Recommendation:

This is a request for the city council to approve an updated Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Arizona, Department of Health Services, to authorize the Fire Department to participate in the CHEMPACK Program in conjunction with the State and the Centers for Disease Control to maintain and store pharmaceuticals for providing antidotes to nerve agent exposure.
