| Call and Notice of Election |

Discussion and possible action to: (a) direct the City Clerk to post the Call and Notice of Election for a Special Primary Election on November 8, 2022 and if necessary, a Special Runoff General Election on March 14, 2023; and (b) authorize the City Clerk and the City Attorney to take all action necessary to conduct the elections.

The Mesquite District Councilmember resigned on April 4, 2022. A Special Primary Election and possible Special Runoff General Election will be conducted to fill the remaining term of the Mesquite District seat, which expires January 11, 2025.
Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes §16-226, nonpartisan elections shall be called no later than one hundred and fifty days (150) before the date of the election. The deadline to call an election is June 11, 2022. Arizona Revised Statutes §16-227 provides that the Call and Notice of Election shall include all of the following:
- Purpose of the election;
- Date of the election;
- Last day and location to file nomination petitions;
- Last day to register to vote; and,
- Name of the election district holding the election.

For FY22, the estimated cost to hold the Special Primary Election is $11,830. If necessary, the FY23 cost to hold the Special Runoff General Election is $48,790. Funds for both activities are currently budgeted in the City Clerk’s Office, line item #1000-0150-520099.
