Summary:
The City of Glendale is currently an important partner in delivering treated Central Arizona Project (CAP) water to north Peoria through the Glendale owned Pyramid Peak Water Treatment Plant (PPWTP). PPWTP provides up to 24 million gallons per day of water to the Peoria system per a previously signed Intergovernmental Agreement.
As responsible stewards of Peoria’s water system, we are constantly looking for ways to ensure proper water system redundancy in the event of emergencies or reduced surface water supplies. Glendale is no different in their approach, and are looking at several options for providing crucial water system redundancy in the north part of their City.
Peoria Water Services is working with our Glendale counterparts to allow an interconnect between the two water systems that would only supply water to Glendale in a true water emergency. An emergency, as defined in the terms of this agreement, is an outage at a treatment facility or a failed water pipeline or booster pump station. It is not meant to be used for long-term purposes or for excess "peak usage" events during normal supply periods. Any water used by Glendale from the Peoria water system would be billed at the commercial water rate like any normal customer. Delivery of any water by Peoria will only come after Peoria’s water demands are met.
