PUBLIC HEARING - Liquor Licenses, Various Locations 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to recommend approval to the State Liquor Board for: (a) a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License for Someburros located at 8200 West Thunderbird Road, Timothy S. Vasquez, Applicant, LL#23-010400; (b) a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License for Canela’s Placita, located at 9976 North 91st Avenue #109, Cecilia Coronel, Applicant, LL#23-010401.

Summary:

Someburros, is a new restaurant located at 8200 W. Thunderbird Road. The owners have applied for a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License.  The application agent is Timothy S. Vasquez.

 

A Series 12 Restaurant license is a non-transferable license that allows for the restaurant to sell and serve all types of spirituous liquor solely for consumption on the premises.  A Restaurant license requires that at least forty percent (40%) of the restaurant’s gross revenue comes from the sale of food.  Failure to meet the 40% food requirement may result in revocation of the license.

 

Some of the businesses around Someburros are Starbucks, Culver’s and Tacos Calafia. There are no staff concerns with Someburros.  The public hearing notice was posted for at least 20 days, and no comments were received during the posting period.  The license application was reviewed according to State law and all Departments gave approvals.

 

Canela’s Placita, is a new restaurant located at 9976 N. 91st Avenue #109. The owners have applied for a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License.  The application agent is Cecilia Coronel.

There are no staff concerns with Canela’s Placita.  The public hearing notice was posted for at least 20 days, and no comments were received during the posting period.  The license application was reviewed according to State law and all Departments gave approvals.

Previous Actions/Background:

There has never been a liquor license at 8200 W. Thunderbird Road.

 

There has never been a liquor license at 9976 N. 91st Avenue #109.

 

Staff Recommendation:

Pursuant to Arizona Law the City must make a recommendation to the State Liquor Board regarding the approval of applications to sell alcoholic beverages in the City. The Standard for the City’s recommendation is whether the best interest of the community will be served by the issuance of these licenses and whether the public convenience is served. Staff recommends approval of the above licenses.
