Discussion and possible action to approve a contract with Safeware to purchase a command vehicle in the amount of $1,552,649, in accordance with budget authority previously approved by Council. 

As a part of the Fleet Reserve Fund and the City’s budget process, the Police Department has determined that the Police Command Vehicle is in need of replacement.  The amount needed to purchase the new replacement vehicle is $1,552,649. The proposed contract price is valid through July 17, 2023. It is anticipated the manufacturer will increase its pricing after that date.

A budget supplemental was submitted in FY2023 to fund this replacement early.  Due to exponentially rising costs of raw materials, a budget shortfall occurred and a supplemental for additional expenditure authority was submitted in FY2024.

The Police Department and Fleet Maintenance division are recommending the purchase of a Farber vehicle through Safeware utilizing Maricopa County cooperative contract 210237-C.

The total amount for this replacement is $1,552,649.91.  Funding for this acquisition is available in FY2024 in the Fleet Equipment Reserve Fund.

Staff recommends Council to authorize the Police Department to enter into a contract with Safeware to purchase a replacement command vehicle in the amount of $1,552,649.91.

Staff recommends City Council approval to acquire a Farber Vehicle model FSV320INTHX and authorize expenditure totaling $1,552,649.91.  The purchase of a Police Command Vehicle will allow the Police Department to provide superior public safety services. 

Arizona State Senate Bill 1702 approved $1.5 million funding to the City of Peoria to purchase a command vehicle. The state funds will be used in place of the previously approved FY2024 budget.
