Discussion and possible action to: (a) accept a grant from the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority in the amount of $132,500 for Parks and Recreation improvements; (b) enter into the 2024 Biennial Grant funding agreement; and (c) authorize the appropriate budget amendment. |
| | | | | | | | Summary:
The AZSTA’s Biennial Grant Program offers funding for community youth and amateur sports facilities, recreational facilities and other community facilities or programs in Maricopa County. Peoria Parks & Recreation staff submitted the following projects to the AZSTA for consideration for their Biennial Grant Program:
- Indoor Volleyball Equipment: Six complete sets of indoor volleyball equipment to be housed and used by Peoria Unified School District Elementary schools as well as Peoria youth sports programs.
- Inflatable Pool Obstacle Course: Housed and used exclusively at Peoria High School Pool.
- Rio Vista Recreation Center Equipment: Purchase of state-of-the-art exercise equipment for the entire center.
- Outdoor Fitness Stations: Installation of new fitness stations at Paseo Verde Park, Sunnyslope Park, Sunrise Park, and Desert Amethyst Park.
The total project cost is $211,400. The grant was funded by AZSTA for $132,500, with a one-third match requirement of $78,900. The required matching funds are currently available. |

In FY2020, a grant from AZSTA in the amount of $219,800 was received for parks and recreation improvements at Rio Vista Recreation Center, pop-up soccer goals, portable AED units, additional seating at Peoria pools, and LED field lighting at several Peoria parks. The project was successfully completed in cooperation with the Peoria Unified School District. There has been no previous action on this grant request. |

Staff recommends that City Council: (a) accept the AZSTA 2024 Biennial Grant; (b) enter into a funding agreement with AZSTA; and (c) approve a budget amendment. |
| | | | | | | | Fiscal Analysis:
Staff requests a budget amendment in the amount of $132,500 from the Proposed Grant Contingency Account (7990-7990-570000) to the AZSTA Authority Grant Account (7245-7372-543005). Matching funds of $78,900 are available in CS00185.
