Expenditure Authority, Solid Waste Vehicle Replacement Purchase 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to authorize expenditure of funds from the Solid Waste Equipment Reserve Fund for the replacement of five automated side loader refuse trucks for Solid Waste Residential Recycling and Residential Collection divisions in the total amount of $2,361,941 to RUSH Peterbilt.

Summary:

As a part of the annual fiscal budget review, the Solid Waste Equipment Reserve Fund was approved by the City Council earlier this calendar year. The City of Peoria Public Works Department’s Solid Waste and Fleet Maintenance divisions completed an evaluation and determined that (5) Solid Waste automated side loaders were ready to be replaced as part of the ongoing vehicle replacement program. The replacement program includes criteria such as vehicle age, mileage, and repair history. The recommendation was submitted to the Fleet Advisory Committee for review, which supported the recommendation for replacement.

 

The Solid Waste and Fleet Maintenance divisions are recommending the purchase of (5) Peterbilt 520 chassis with NewWay Sidewinder 33 cubic yard automated side loader bodies. The City of Peoria would purchase these five vehicles from Rush Peterbilt using cooperative contract No. HT-06-20, through Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) cooperative purchasing program.

 

The total amount for these replacements is $2,361,941.  Funding for this acquisition is available in the Solid Waste Equipment Reserve Fund.

 

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends City Council approval to acquire (5) Peterbilt 520 chassis with NewWay Sidewinder 33 cubic yard automated side loader bodies from RUSH Peterbilt, and authorize expenditures totaling $2,361,941.

Fiscal Analysis:

Staff requests the use of Solid Waste Equipment Reserve Fund – Capital Outlay 2620/2830/542502 for the replacement of unit #2050, 2051, 2107, 2108, and 2154.
