Ice Machine Replacement at Municipal Operations Center 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to approve a budget amendment in the amount of $120,000 from the General Fund Contingency account to Facilities to replace the existing single ice machine and bin at the Municipal Operations Center with three new ice makers and dispensers.
Summary:

The current ice machine housed at the Municipal Operations Center (MOC) is 14 years old and past its projected 10- year lifespan. Various departments throughout the city use this ice machine during their daily operations. The Facilities Division would like to replace the current ice machine with three (3) new icemakers and dispensers. These machines would produce the same volume of ice as the existing machine, but allow users to dispense ice utilizing a hands-free operation. This will also allow for redundant production of ice and eliminate a single point of failure. The cost to purchase and install the new machines is estimated at $120,000. This would include plumbing modifications, electrical modifications, design, permitting, and inspections that are required.

Staff Recommendation:

The staff recommends the approval of the budget amendment in the amount of $120,000 to purchase three (3) new ice makers and dispensers for the Municipal Operations Center.  This will allow for hands-free availability of ice for departments throughout the city with redundant protection.

Fiscal Analysis:

New funds are being requested; thus it requires a contingency transfer to the corresponding chartfield account in Public Works-Facilities of: 3250-3660-530019
