Discussion and possible action to recommend approval to the State Liquor Board for a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License for Tiki Star, located at 9788 West Northern Avenue Suite 1400, Mario A. Rana, Applicant, LL#23-010977.

Tiki Star, is a new restaurant located at 9788 W. Northern Avenue Suite 1400. This location is currently unoccupied. The owners have applied for a New Restaurant (Series 12) Liquor License.  The application agent is Mario A. Rana.

A Series 12 Restaurant license is a non-transferable license that allows for the restaurant to sell and serve all types of spirituous liquor solely for consumption on the premises.  A Restaurant license requires that at least forty percent (40%) of the restaurant’s gross revenue comes from the sale of food.  Failure to meet the 40% food requirement may result in revocation of the license.

Some of the businesses around Tiki Star are Harkins Theatres Park West 14, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and Vans.  There are no staff concerns with Tiki Star.  The public hearing notice was posted for at least 20 days, and no comments were received during the posting period.  The license application was reviewed according to State law and all Departments gave approvals.

There has never been a liquor license at 9788 W. Northern Avenue Suite 1400.

Pursuant to Arizona Law the City must make a recommendation to the State Liquor Board regarding the approval of applications to sell alcoholic beverages in the City. The standard for the City’s recommendation is whether the best interest of the community will be served by the issuance of these licenses and whether the public convenience is served. Staff recommends approval of the above licenses.
