Discussion and possible action to authorize a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Glendale Police Department to utilize the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network Program.

This MOU is an agreement between the City of Glendale Police Department (GPD) and the City of Peoria Police Department to participate in the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Program. 

The NIBIN Program compares images of ballistic evidence in an integrated investigative approach to reduce firearms violence and improve crime gun intelligence. Use of this approach allows law enforcement agencies to work together in combatting firearms-related violence.

Currently, the Peoria Police Department participates in the NIBIN program utilizing City of Glendale Police Department NIBIN equipment which allows a quick ballistic analysis.

This agreement will be effective for five years, and can be extended by mutual agreement. It also may be terminated at any time by mutual written consent. 

A: Authorize the MOU with the City of Glendale Police Department and City of Peoria Police Department to continue participating in the NIBIN Program. 

B: Choose not to authorize the MOU with the City of Glendale Police Department.

Staff recommends authorizing the MOU with the City of Glendale Police Department to allow continuity of participation in the NIBIN Program.

This MOU creates no fiscal impact on the City of Peoria.
