Summary:

The Police Chief position recently became vacant due to the retirement of Chief Art Miller. At the conclusion of an external recruitment process and comprehensive selection process, resulting in 30 applicants, Thomas Intrieri has been selected as the next Police Chief.

Prior to joining the City of Peoria, Thomas (Thom) served the Mesa Police Department for 28 years. His previous role was as the Red Mountain Division Commander, which is comprised of approximately 40 square miles, serving 154,000 Mesa residents, with 146 police personnel.

Thom has had a rewarding career in each of his assignments. He has worked as a Commander for Patrol Operations at three different divisions (Red Mountain, Superstition, Fiesta). As the Special Operations Division Commander, he supported a fully complemented Tier 1 Tactical Team for the City of Mesa, while working with five federal law enforcement agencies to address violent offenders and organized crime in the East Valley. As the Criminal Investigations Commander, he was the Director of the Mesa Family Advocacy Center while supporting the investigative processes of the Special Victims Units, the Victims Advocacy Unit, the Homicide Unit, Fraud Investigations, and the Human Trafficking task force. Prior to his current assignment, Thom served as the Academy Director for the Mesa Police Academy, which serves the Cities of Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, and Tempe.

Thom has been married to his wife, Rochelle, for 25 years, and they have three adult children. Thom has been actively involved in his community over the years in a variety of capacities. Most notably, he served as the president of a non-profit youth soccer organization that served 6,000 youth each year, from 2008 until September 2022.
