SUBJECT:
Arizona Mutual Aid Compact, State of Arizona, Disaster Response

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to approve the acceptance of the Arizona Mutual Aid Compact with the State of Arizona as part of the statewide disaster response system.

Summary:

In order to continue to maintain the City of Peoria as part of the statewide disaster response system, the Peoria Fire-Medical Department has dedicated staff who work with each of the city departments and outside agencies to mitigate, prepare, respond, and recover from a man-made or natural disaster. Key to success is the Peoria Fire-Medical Department’s ability to maintain a positive and supportive relationship with fellow disaster response organizations outside the city.

The Arizona Mutual Aid Compact (AZMAC) enables the City to quickly obtain emergency assistance in the form of personnel, equipment, materials, and other related services. The primary objective is to facilitate rapid, short-term deployment of emergency support prior to, during, and after an incident. A signed agreement does not obligate the provision or receipt of aid but provides an available resource in the event of a disaster.

Previous Actions/Background:

The City has maintained this agreement with the State of Arizona since 2010. This current agreement was approved by Council on October 28, 2010, and expires on December 31, 2023.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff’s recommendation is to approve the acceptance of the Arizona Mutual Aid Compact with the State of Arizona.
