Intergovernmental Agreement, Superior Court, Jury Services 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to approve Intergovernmental Agreement for Jury Services between Superior Court in Maricopa County and the City of Peoria effective July 1, 2024.

Summary:

On March 6, 2006, the City of Peoria, Peoria Municipal Court and the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement to use the services of Maricopa County Superior Court to have Superior Court print and mail summons to potential jurors on behalf of the Peoria Municipal Court.  The potential jurors will be selected to receive a summons from a master jury list in accordance with state law.  See A.R.S. 21-301 et seq.  In addition to printing and mailing the summonses, the Superior Court will field phone calls about postponements, excuses, and disqualifications.  
Previous Actions/Background:

The Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County has historically provided jury services to the Peoria Municipal Court via Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Peoria, Peoria Municipal Court and the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County.  The current IGA for jury services is IGA No. KR22-0024 that is due to expire June 30, 2024.
Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approving the Intergovernmental Agreement for Jury Services with Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County effective July 1, 2024, and expires June 30, 2026, with four additional two-year terms, to expire no later than June 30, 2034.
Fiscal Analysis:

No fiscal impact.
