Summary:
The City of Peoria’s Solid Waste program provides service to 63,159 household accounts. The City of Peoria currently has an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Glendale for the disposal of municipal solid waste. Peoria has similar agreements with the City of Phoenix and Waste Management. It is beneficial to the City of Peoria to maintain agreements with all three entities. Access to multiple locations allows greater flexibility in routing collection vehicles and maximizes efficient service delivery.
The original term of the Glendale Agreement was for five (5) years with two (2) options to extend the Agreement for three (3) years each on terms acceptable to both Peoria and Glendale. An amendment was agreed to on May 24, 2022, which adjusted tonnage fees due to inflation and costs to maintain the City of Glendale Landfill. The current Intergovernmental Agreement will expire on June 30, 2024.
The proposed agreement with Glendale will remain in effect until September 30, 2024, or until the parties execute a revised and restated agreement. All terms and conditions of the proposed Intergovernmental Agreement amendment that are consistent with the current agreement will remain the same throughout the extended term.
