Grant, United States Department of Justice, Byrne Discretionary Community Project 

Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to: a) authorize acceptance of a United States Department of Justice, Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grant in the amount of $103,000; and b) approve a budget amendment in the amount of $103,000 from the Contingency Fund to the Miscellaneous PD Grants Fund.

Summary:

The Peoria Police Department was notified by the United States Department of Justice with an invitation to apply for the Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grants/Byrne Discretionary Grants Program. This award in the amount of $103,000 is being funded by Congressional Directed Spending for a police response vehicle.

 

Senator Kelly’s office invited organizations based in Arizona to submit requests for policies or funding to be included in the fiscal year 2024 appropriations bills, including both programmatic requests and requests for Congressionally Directed Spending. Congressionally Directed Spending requests are requests for funding for specific projects or programs within the state or Arizona.

Previous Actions/Background:

The Council has accepted several previous grant awards from the United States Department of Justice.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends Council to (a) accept the United States Department of Justice, Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grants/Byrne Discretionary Grants Program award totaling $103,000, and (b) approve a budget adjustment of $103,000 from the Contingency account to the Miscellaneous PD Grants Fund.

Fiscal Analysis:

Request a budget amendment in the amount of $103,000 from the Contingency account to the Miscellaneous PD Grants Fund.
