|
| | | | | | | | Purpose:
Discussion and possible action to accept funding in the amount of $51,000 from the State of Arizona House of Representatives, 56th Legislature, House Bill 2897, for Peace Officer non-lethal devices and/or equipment. |
| | | | | | | | Summary:
The State of Arizona provided $750,000 in grant funding last year to three local agencies to create PepperBall patrol programs. The PepperBall patrol programs were created to decrease the risk of an officer involved shooting, keep officers safer while engaged in potentially dangerous situations, and better the relationship between the police and communities. Following the successful implementation of non-lethal PepperBall patrol programs in Tucson, Mesa and Chandler, the State of Arizona has expanded its grant program for PepperBall products for the current fiscal year. Peoria Police Department applied and has been awarded funds to enhance the current non-lethal policing devices and/or equipment options.
This award will allow the department to purchase ten (10) additional devices, including the required projectiles, speed loaders and maintenance kits.
