Purpose:

Discussion and possible action to: a) accept a Western States Arts Federation TourWest grant for $2,500 to support arts programming; and b) authorize a budget amendment of $2,500 from Contingency Fund to the Arts and Culture division.

Summary:

Western States Arts Federation TourWest is a competitive grant program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts that provides subsidies to arts and community organizations in the 13 states and 3 jurisdictions in the western U.S. region for the presentation of touring performers and literary artists. The TourWest grant provides flexible funding to encourage the presentation of performing arts programming to culturally diverse audiences and those who do not typically enjoy ready access to the performing arts. These funds will be utilized for a guest artist residency focused on Frida Kahlo, the legendary 20th-century Hispanic artist and icon. A series of acting workshops, master classes, and performances will be held at various locations throughout the City of Peoria.

Previous Actions/Background:

There has been no previous action on this item.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends that the Council: a) accept the grant award from WESTAF; and b) approve a budget transfer of $2,500 from contingency to the Arts and Culture division.

Fiscal Analysis:

This budget amendment has no fiscal impact to the city. The amendment is to provide expenditure authority for funds received through a grant. The matching fund requirement of $2,500 is available in the current operating budget Arts and Culture division.
