Discussion and possible action to: a) accept a Creative Capacity grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts for $14,800, to support arts programming; and b) authorize a budget amendment of $14,800 from Contingency Fund to the Arts and Culture division.

The Arizona Commission on the Arts provides Creative Capacity Grants for general operating support to nonprofit organizations whose primary mission is to produce, present, teach, or serve the arts. The award will support the expansion of the temporary art installation Light at Play. Now entering its third year, audiences have raved about the experience. This grant will allow for numerous opportunities to expand the event’s impact. With additional funding, staff plans to explore a secondary location and develop arts education activities related to this temporary art exhibit.

Staff recommends that the Council: a) accept the grant award from the Arizona Commission on the Arts; and b) approve a budget transfer of $14,800 from contingency to the Arts and Culture division.

This budget amendment has no fiscal impact to the city.  The amendment is to provide expenditure authority for funds received through a grant.  The matching fund requirement of $14,800 is available in the current operating budget of the Arts and Culture division.
