Discussion and possible action to recommend approval to the State Liquor Board for:

(a) a new On-Sale Beer and Wine (Series 07) Liquor License for MT Barrel Tasting Room, located at 9784 West Northern Avenue #1205, Michelle Leon, Applicant, LL#24-001437.

(b) a new Wine and Beer (Series 10) Liquor License for Lee Lee Oriental Supermart, located at 7575 West Cactus Road, Stephen Chung Sze, Applicant, LL#24-000577.

MT Barrel Tasting Room, is a new wine and beer tasting room, located at 9784 W. Northern Avenue #1205. The owner has applied for a new On-Sale Beer and Wine (Series 07) Liquor License. The application agent is Michelle Leon.

Series 07—permits the retail sale of beer and wine for consumption on and off premises.

Some of the businesses around MT Barrel Tasting Room are Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, The Vig and Harkins Theatres Park West 14. There are no staff concerns with MT Barrel Tasting Room. The public hearing notice was posted for at least 20 days, and no comments were received during the posting period. The license application was reviewed according to State law and all Departments gave approvals.

Lee Lee Oriental Supermart, is an existing grocery store, located at 7575 W. Cactus Road. The new owners have applied for a New Wine and Beer (Series 10) Liquor License.  The application agent is Stephen Chung Sze.

Some of the businesses around Lee Lee Oriental Supermart are Fry’s Fuel Center, Panda Express and CVS Drug Store.  There are no staff concerns with Lee Lee Oriental Supermart.  The public hearing notice was posted for at least 20 days, and no comments were received during the posting period.  The license application was reviewed according to State law and all Departments gave approvals.

There has never been a liquor license at 9784 W. Northern Avenue #1205.

In June 2024, the Mayor and Council recommended approval to the Arizona State Liquor Board for Lee Lee Oriental Supermart for a new Wine and Beer (Series 10) Liquor License located at 7575 W. Cactus Road.

Pursuant to Arizona Law the City must make a recommendation to the State Liquor Board regarding the approval of applications to sell alcoholic beverages in the City. The standard for the City’s recommendation is whether the best interest of the community will be served by the issuance of these licenses and whether the public convenience is served. Staff recommends approval of the above licenses.
