Discussion and possible action to authorize the use of budget contingency in the amount of $94,000 for the addition of interior dorms at Peoria Fire Station No. 7 located near Jomax Road and North 77th Lane. |
| | | | | | | | Summary:
Project FD00036, Fire Station No. 7 Remodel, has been approved in the FY2025 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget. The project reclaims an underutilized police report writing suite adjacent to the lobby and remodels into two additional fire crew dorm rooms. Additional improvements include the conversion of the kitchen and patio cooking appliances to bulk fed propane. The project contained a second phase of ‘construction’ funding totaling $94,000 in FY2026 that was to address cost escalation since the project’s original CIP approval and any unforeseen conditions discovered during the design phase.
The project’s design and preconstruction phase started early in FY2025 and the project has advanced into construction permit approvals and final construction bidding / award. Advancing the FY2026 funds ensures that upon the administrative award of the construction job order, the contractor can procure the long lead time fire rated doors and frames and custom millwork dorm beds sufficiently in advance of the start of construction in mid-summer 2025. |

Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council authorize the use of budget contingency for the addition of interior dorms at Fire Station No. 7 on Jomax Road. This action will result in a transfer of $94,000 from contingency to capital improvement construction account 1970-1970-CIPPS-543011-PD00036. |
