Summary:
Water Services has successfully completed two CIP projects with resulting savings and would like to redirect these funds towards the Water System R&M Expense Program.
Specifically, the department seeks to reallocate the following funding towards project 2050-2140-543011-CIPWR-UT00438 (Water System R&M Expense Program).

Water Services would like to use the funding saved on other projects to address a few key initiatives that have recently been identified, summarized below:
Total trihalomethanes (TTHM) mitigation
TTHMs are disinfection byproducts that form when chlorine reacts with organic matter. The Water Service’s department monitors the distribution system to reduce TTHM levels and ensure safe drinking water is delivered to our customers.
Water Services has been installing TTHM mitigation equipment at reservoir sites as needed. Work has started to install TTHM mitigation equipment at Water Services sites before the summer season, when TTHMs will be higher due to the warmer weather. It’s critical that we get this infrastructure installed from both a public safety and regulatory perspective. The total for this project is $630,000.
Greenway WTP Safety Items
Water Services has recently been made aware of several safety items at our Greenway WTP that need to be addressed, summarized below:
The plant has several large water basins that have walkways over them to allow the operators to check equipment located in the middle. The walkway grating is aging, exposed to the sun, and beginning to deteriorate. It’s critical that the plant staff have safe working conditions, so it’s become a priority to replace all the gratings to ensure the safety of our employees.
Also at Greenway, a light pole adjacent to the basins rusted and fell over. The operators need light while working night shifts, and the plant should be free from any exposed/broken wires around their basins or puddles. Many other light poles in the basin area are rusted, so Water Services would like to replace all their light poles around their basins. The total for these projects is $150,000.
