Discussion and possible action to authorize the City Manager to approve a fourth amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Glendale, and the Sun City Fire and Medical Department for the reimbursement of fire and medical responses by those agencies to the Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment, an Enterprise of the Tohono O’odham Nation. |
| | | | | | | | Summary:
The City of Peoria has an agreement with Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment, an Enterprise of the Tohono O'odham Nation, to provide Fire and Medical services to its property located at 9431 W. Northern, Glendale, Arizona 85305.
In this agreement there is a section pertaining to fees that the Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment, an Enterprise of the Tohono O'odham Nation will pay the city of Peoria for all services delivered. As part of the existing valley wide Automatic-Aid agreement that Peoria, Glendale and Sun City are members of, they (Glendale and Sun City) will be responding to fire and medical calls to that location when first-due Peoria units are unavailable to respond.
The City of Peoria, as the Agreement holder with Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment, an Enterprise of the Tohono O'odham Nation, will act as the pass-through agency to reimburse Glendale and Sun City for services delivered for an additional year. |
| | | | | | | | Previous Actions/Background:
There was a previous amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement that was approved by City Council in April of 2023 extending the agreement two additional years, to provide the mechanism to reimburse the City of Glendale and the Sun City Fire and Medical Department for their responses to the Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment properties. This system has worked well for the City of Peoria and our neighboring Automatic-Aid partners, as well as the Desert Diamond Casino and Tohono O'odham Nation. |

The recommendation from staff is to approve a fourth amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Peoria, the City of Glendale and the Sun City Fire and Medical Department for the reimbursement of fire and medical responses by those agencies to the the Desert Diamond Casino and Entertainment, an Enterprise of the Tohono O'odham Nation. |
