Summary:
The Integrated Water Utility Master Plan (IWUMP) is Peoria’s long-term strategic roadmap for managing water and wastewater resources to meet demand and ensure sustainability. It outlines the status of the current water, wastewater and reclaimed water systems and provides key strategies to ensure reliable and efficient utility operations for our residents as our city continues to grow.
The plan is typically updated every 7-10 years, with the last (and current) plan being 2015. The 2025 IWUMP will focus heavily on key items such as water supply resiliency, reclaimed water infrastructure development, optimizing groundwater storage, implementing conservation programs, and managing growth. The plan also sets the goals for the ten-year capital improvement plan (CIP).
The Advanced Water Purification (AWP) Feasibility Study evaluated treatment options, available water supplies, and implementation alternatives for introducing AWP in Peoria. AWP is a proven technology that can transform treated wastewater into a high-quality, reusable water source, strengthening system reliability and resilience. This technology can greatly help the City ensure water supply resiliency, a key goal outlined in the IWUMP.
