Discussion and possible action to accept funding in the amount of $300,000 in State funds via Senate Bill 1735 for the purpose of supporting the Varney Park Improvement Project.

The Parks and Recreation Department has designed and is in the process of completing a neighborhood park renovation project at Varney Park.  This project includes the demolition and replacement of two post-tension basketball courts, grading improvements to enhance drainage, and the installation of an illuminated “Airnasium” canopy over the south court. The project also includes upgrading existing lighting fixtures to LED and restoring the surrounding landscape. These funds will assist in offsetting the City’s capital costs associated with the project.

City Council has previously accepted funding through the State of Arizona, bill initiatives referencing specific programs and projects.

Staff recommends that Council accept funding in the amount of $300,000 in State funds via Senate Bill 1735 to support the Varney Park Improvement Project.
